Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.
~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ .
The names of the candles are:
The first candle: Expectation, Hope, Prophecy
The second candle: Proclamation, Fulfillment, Peace
The third candle: Joy
The fourth candle is the Christ Candle and is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day
We are in the first week of advent with the theme of Hope and Prophecy. Some favorite readings for advent devotions come from the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 9:6
