Thanksgiving holiday is just over, and this is the time that many happily pull out the Christmas decorations and begin the house overhaul into a magical and sparkling abode, unthinkable for any time but Christmas!
The first day of Advent is December 2nd this year, the Sunday of the “Prophecy” candle on the advent wreath. Traditionally it is more somber in tone than other Advent meditations, with its emphasis on not only the prophetic foretelling of the Messiah, but also the themes of his position as judge, and the end of this world of woe. It seems incongruous to think of the woes of the world as we rev up the engine of festivity and cheer, but that message is firmly woven into the beautiful gospel message of Christmas.
